Man sues Castle Rock officers for excessive force

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A man who has cerebral palsy is suing three Castle Rock police officers for using excessive force during a traffic stop in 2022.

According to the lawsuit, within minutes of the officers pulling Graham over, two officers decided they would place him under arrest for previous vehicle registration violations.

For 30 minutes, the lawsuit claims, Graham didn't pose any threat to the safety of officers.

When an officer told Graham he was being placed under arrest, the lawsuit says, the officers didn't ask Graham to put his hands behind his back or in any way permit the officers to place him in handcuffs.

Denver cop facing lawsuit for injuring 62-year-old veteran

DENVER (KDVR) — A local civil rights attorney is preparing to file a lawsuit against Denver Police Officer Cody Lane, who is currently facing an internal affairs investigation.

According to attorney Milo Schwab, Lane pushed his 62-year-old client in front of a Lower Downtown bar in June of 2022. The man, who is a military veteran, ended up hurt, according to Schwab. This isn’t Lane’s first reprimand as a Denver cop, FOX31 has learned.

“Pushing someone over 60 years old onto the cement, onto a fence, into other people, certainly when he doesn’t have the ability to react because he’s holding a large camera, we shouldn’t be treating people like that,” he said.

Federal lawsuit claims Castle Rock police let K-9 attack handcuffed man

A lawsuit filed in Denver's federal court alleges that Castle Rock police allowed a K-9 to bite the groin of a handcuffed man sitting on a curb during a stolen car investigation.

The suit claims that on May 27, 2021, two Castle Rock police officers were searching for suspects in a stolen car case. One of those officers, Joseph Gondeck, had a K-9 assigned to him. Gondeck had his K-9, Maverick, sniff the car to search for suspects by scent. Officers located two Hispanic men about a mile from the abandoned car and held them at gunpoint. Gondeck and another Castle Rock officer arrested Carlos Gonzales Del Hoyo and placed him on the curb with his hands bound behind his back.

Federal suit alleges JeffCo middle school allowed sexual harassment culture

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — The Jefferson County R-1 School District is facing a federal lawsuit alleging the district and some school leaders who worked at Everitt Middle School during the 2016-2017 school year failed to take seriously reports of sexual harassment and assault while also hindering a police investigation.

“For too long, the leaders of Everitt Middle School and the Jefferson County School District have overlooked and ignored a culture of sexual harassment and sexual assault,” said Milo Schwab, the attorney who filed the complaint on behalf an anonymous teen and her parent.

The complaint alleged the school permitted a culture of sexual harassment for several years that included “Titty Touch Tuesdays” and “Slap Ass Fridays,” in which teen boys would touch girls’ breasts and buttocks in the hallways.

Protester In Denver Believes He Was 'Purposely' Shot By Denver Police

DENVER (CBS4) - A lawsuit has been filed in U.S. District Court against Denver Police and the city by a demonstrator seriously injured in Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. On May 31, 2020, Denver saw the fourth day of protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

Michael Driscoll was one of the protesters. He was live streaming video in front of Denver Police headquarters. Officers in riot gear were down the block.

Driscoll claims there was no warning when police fired rubber bullets and tear gas.

"It struck me between my eyes on the left side of my face," he told CBS4.

Kyle Rittenhouse sued by man he shot in 2020, says he will 'prove' his 'innocence again'

WASHINGTON (TND) — Kyle Rittenhouse has reportedly been hit with a fresh lawsuit filed by a man he shot during the 2020 riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Gaige Grosskreutz is suing Rittenhouse along with Wisconsin police and officials, according to Fox News, which reportedly obtained a copy of the lawsuit.

Astonishingly, the Kenosha Police Department, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, their supervising officials and police officers, and law enforcement officers from surrounding communities did not treat Defendant Rittenhouse or any of the other armed individuals patrolling the streets as a threat to the safety of themselves or the citizens they were sworn to protect," Grosskreutz's lawsuit reportedly reads.

Instead, the law enforcement Defendants deputized these armed individuals, conspired with them, and ratified their actions by letting them patrol the streets, armed with deadly weapons, to mete out justice as they saw fit," the lawsuit reportedly continues.

Attorneys E. Milo Schwab of Ascend Counsel and Kimberley Motley of Motley Legal Services filed Grosskreutz's lawsuit on Feb. 14, Fox News reports.

Why Unlucky Thirteen's George Floyd Protest Lawsuit Could Cost Denver Plenty

Denver has settled three lawsuits related to the 2020 George Floyd demonstrations and was also hit with a $14 million judgment after a trial in March. But at least 23 more complaints involving in excess of 120 plaintiffs remain active, including three filed by attorney Milo Schwab of Ascend Counsel, who says that liability for these suits could be "staggering."

One of the complaints being handled by Schwab — it was filed on May 27 of this year — stands out owing to its large number of named plaintiffs. What happened to Marquis Dominick, Brett Rios, Alex Hickman, Tashari Sellers, Raymond Schwab, Jesse Friedman, Susan McKillips, Ryan Kehoe, Adam Bentch, Patricia Koo, Isis Usborne, Kristen Klotzer and Joe Sazuszwala is summarized in a section headed "Thirteen Plaintiffs Are Brutalized for Their Political Expression."

"They're from all walks of life," Schwab says, "and they had different experiences. But a lot about them was similar."
